SCCWRP completes second year of partnership with undergraduate fellowship program to advance climate change research

SCCWRP has completed the second year of a partnership with a California undergraduate fellowship program to train a new generation of students to help solve pressing societal issues.

The #CalifornianforAll College Corps Fellowship Program – a four-year initiative of the Office of the Governor launched in 2022 – placed three Climate Change Fellows at SCCWRP this academic year from California State University, Long Beach and Vanguard University in Costa Mesa. In total, SCCWRP has hosted five of these students over the past two years.

The fellows have worked part time in SCCWRP’s Biogeochemistry Department on a range of research projects related to climate change, including ocean acidification, harmful algal blooms, microbial contaminants, and toxicology.

The program’s goal is to place more than 10,000 college students in fellowship positions across California to tackle issues across three priority areas: climate action, K-12 education, and food security.
